Reef Fish Amendment 45: Extension of the Red Snapper Recreational Sector Separation Sunset Provision

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council took final action on Amendment 45 at their June 2016 meeting.   The purpose of this action is to extend the sunset provision that would end the distinct private angling and federal for-hire components of the red snapper recreational sector at the end of the 2017 fishing year put in place by Amendment 40.  Amendment 40 established sector separation in 2015 by defining distinct private angling and federal for-hire components of the recreational sector who fish for red snapper; allocated red snapper resources between the components; and established component accountability measures through the use of component annual catch targets to project fishing season lengths.   Amendment 45 proposes to extend the sunset provision by five years.
