Endangered and Threatened Species
Listing Petitions & Status Reviews

Any U.S. citizen or organization may petition NOAA Fisheries to list a species as "threatened" or "endangered," reclassify a species, or revise critical habitat.  Additionally, NOAA Fisheries may also initiate a status review to see if listing a species is warranted.  Several species are currently being considered for listing under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
