Implementing Right Whale Gillnet
Restrictions in the Southeast

NOAA Fisheries Service revised regulations implementing the Atlantic Large Whale Take Reduction Plan by expanding the Southeast U.S. Restricted Area and modifying regulations pertaining to gillnetting within the Southeast U.S. Restricted Area.  This final rule, effective July 25, 2007, prohibits commercial gillnet fishing and possession of gillnets in Atlantic Ocean waters off South Carolina, Georgia and northeast Florida during right whale calving season from November 15 through April 15, annually.
