North Atlantic Right Whale Recovery Plan Southeast Implementation Team
The Engendered Species Act (ESA) authorizes The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) to appoint recovery teams to assist the development and implementation of recovery plans. The North Atlantic Right Whale Recovery Plan Southeast Implementation Team (SEIT) was founded in 1993 and restructured in 2010 when terms of reference were established. The purpose of the SEIT is to assist NOAA Fisheries Service's Southeast Region, in the implementation of the recovery plan for North Atlantic right whales and advise on issues related to the status and conservation of right whales in the Southeast U.S. (North Carolina to Florida). The team is made up of representatives from federal and state agencies, as well as various stakeholder groups.
