Coopersative Statistics Program

Cooperative Statistics Program (CSP)

The State-Federal Cooperative Program for Fishery Statistics (CSP) collects landings data from the commercial and recreational fisheries of the southeast region of the U.S.  The NMFS Southeast Fisheries Science Center (SEFSC) and the states use this information to determine yields, and the Southeast Regional Administrator and Regional Fishery Management Councils use it to formulate Fisheries Management Plans (FMPs).  The program is noncompetitive with funds provided to the states for port agents, clerical personnel, and statistical supervisors to collect and process fisheries data.   State personnel enter all landings statistics and biological data through user terminals into a SEFSC database.

The CSP was initiated in 1982 by the FY 1982 Congressional Budget Resolution.  Funding to the states is determined by an allocation formula and is obligated annually through multi-year cooperative agreements.  Activities must be maintained without interruption since catches are landed continuously throughout the year.
