GIS Data for Management Areas for Endangered and Anadromous Species

These management area maps and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data represent the areas from Title 50 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Part 224, Endangered Marine and Anadromous Species and Recommended Shipping Lanes to Reduce Collisions with North Atlantic Right Whales. The maps and data on this page represent seasonal management areas (SMAs) designated under the Speed restrictions to protect North Atlantic Right Whales, for areas that include the Southeast, Northeast and Mid-Atlantic U.S., and Recommended Lanes for the Southeast U.S.

THESE MAPS AND DATA ARE FOR ILLUSTRATIVE PURPOSES ONLY. The CFR should be consulted for the precise legal definition of the SMAs and geographic coordinates, and NOAA Nautical Chart 11480 for the recommended shipping lanes.

Below are maps and corresponding GIS data.
Esri's ArcGIS software or Google Earth can be used to open shapefiles. Metadata (information about the data file) for each GIS layer is available in XML or an easy-to-read HTML format. Google Earth can also be used to open zipped KML (KMZ) files to view individual managed areas. A link to download Google Earth has been provided below. Please click on the appropriate blue hyperlink to view or download the file.
